"It would be impossible to overstate the appreciation I have for the English Department at UTC." |
Courtney HouptDegrees:
BA English (UTC), Doctor of Jurisprudence (UT College of Law) Career Accomplishments: Courtney joined Taylor & Knight, G.P. as an associate attorney in August 2013, and since then her practice has concentrated mainly on the defense of elected officials, County employees and representatives, and governmental entities in litigation arising in the East Tennessee area. Courtney's Thoughts on the UTC English Department: It would be impossible to overstate the appreciation I have for the English Department at UTC. So much of what I do as an attorney depends on my ability to interpret and analyze the law and my ability to effectively communicate my client’s position to others, and the English Department was instrumental in helping me develop these skills. More importantly, though, the English Department gave me a supportive, welcoming environment in which to pursue my academic interests. The professors are truly the Department’s greatest assets—whether I needed to discuss a class assignment or have a brief existential meltdown, I knew I could turn to any of my English professors for guidance or just a friendly ear. I am so glad that I got to be part of this community during my time at UTC, and, if given the chance, I wouldn’t hesitate to do it all over again. |
